Living Waters Doula Services

"Out of her belly will flow rivers of living water" Rivers carry life and bring it forth to those who need it. I am excited to begin offering Living Waters Doula Services to my @SistersinLoss!

What is a Doula?
A Doula is a non-clinically trained support person who provides emotional, physical and informational assistance before, during, and after childbirth. My goal as your doula is to help you heal, remove anxiety and fear, and find peace and hope on your pregnancy journey.

Living Waters Doula Services

+ Birth After Loss Service - For moms pregnant after loss

Choosing a doula is a three way venture with three people asking questions, making assessments, and choosing. The mother is usually looking for a doula who exhibits confidence, skill and promotes trust. The partner is usually looking for experience, mood and good energy as they will be spending the most time with the doula. And the doula is looking for an educated client, one who knows what they desire, and a couple that would be a healthy environment to work with.

Questions to Ask Your Doula?

  • How did you become interested in supporting women through birth?

  • How long have you been a doula? Are you certified? Do you do continuing education?

  • How will you help me achieve my goals in birth? (Look for concrete examples)

  • What is your philosophy around birth?

  • Do you have a back-up doula in case you can’t make it to my birth? How often do you use backup?

  • Do you offer postpartum support or lactation support? And if not can you make a referral?

  • What can I expect when working with you? Your services and limitations to services?

  • Do you have experience supporting women in situations like mine or with my provider?

What you will receive:

  • Providing continuous emotional and physical support

  • Giving information if asked and helping the mother find resources to research her birth choices (before labor)

  • Using comfort measures like massage, suggesting different positions and helping with relaxation breathing

  • Accommodating the mother’s wishes for the birth environment (low light, soft music, etc) to the extent possible in the place of birth

  • Encouraging the mother to communicate with her doctor and to be informed about any procedures and interventions (a doula does NOT give medical advice or interfere with the doctor/mother relationship)

  • Supporting the father or birth partner in the best way to support the mother. A doula never replaces the very important role of the birth partner and a good doula will help the birth partner by suggesting ways that he can support the laboring mom and things that can improve their synergy in labor.

  • Bi-weekly video chats on progress (60 mins)

  • Unlimited text or email contact during contracted time

A birth doula also helps with:

  • Breathing techniques

  • Relaxation techniques

  • Laboring positions

  • Massage for comfort

  • Making sure you eat and drink enough

  • Letting you know when it’s time to go to the hospital or birthing center (if necessary)

Other benefits include:

  • Increased chance of a positive childbirth experience

  • higher breastfeeding success rate

  • better maternal self esteem

  • lower blood pressure during labor

  • less pain experienced
